Villa Theresa Guest House

This case was brought to the public attention in Haunted America by Norman and Scott (see below), in what they referred to as the Watchers on the Stairs. It occurred in a private dwelling located on the southern edge of the Black Hills with a view over downtown Hot Springs.

The building was constructed in 1891 by Fred T. Evans. The witnesses who spoke to the authors lived there between 1974 and the mid-1980's. In 1990, it was converted into the Villa Theresa Guest House.

The phenomenon included the apparitions an elegant lady in clothing from the 1890's seen on the stairs and a "glowering man" that sat on the staircase; moving coloured lights in rooms; door knobs would be seen to turn on their own.
